Suggestion for Ranking System

Suggestions are invited to create a Ranking system. Please recommend 5 rank titles along with suggested minimum posts.

I am not oppossed to the ranking system but I'm afraid it might encourage spamming. What do you guys think

Spamming is always a possibility that we will have to be careful of. Usually spammers do not need a reason like grabing a rank to spam. We will just have to keep our eyes open. phpbb has powerful spam protection. Don't worry too much about it. Specially with a hacker like DK with us! lol.

hmm...either you didn't get me or I don't get you...

I was saying that if ranking is implemented then some members might make too many unnecessary posts just to grab a higher ranking. I'm afraid I feel I am already seeing some signs of that...

Some other forums (can't remember the names) not only count posts but also use other information (like length of membership in the forum) in ranking. Perhaps you may (I'm not sure) develop some rules for that.

Personally, I don't bother about this ranking thing. I would rather like to have custom titles (where ranks are suppossed to take place).

What's the difference? Too many irrelevent threads and topics will have to be treated the same way as an outsider spammer. First we request everyone not to post threads in forums they don't belong in case of incompliance modertaors will delete them.

Besides, each member can be dealt with individual basis too to remove his rank.

I will check to see if there is any mod already made for taking more info into account. This is a good idea.

If the ranking is purely on the basis of post countings then I won't agree with the last three (advanced, talented, super genious). So, I think first you have to decide how you are gonna rank then think about the ranking themselves.

I assume for the moment you are gonna rank according to the post counts. In that case advanced, talented, super genious does not seem logical (atleast to a kiddo like me

). Instead you can use junior,senior kinda thing. I am sure I could come up with some better idea but at the moment I'm working on my uni stuff (I'm posting these messages in between of my works) so can't think anything else at the moment. I'll think about it on my way home.

P.S. Anyway, what about others ideas? where is everyone else ?

hi quantum, i think mastermind is right. i also don't expect that rank is done by counthing only posts. i think more thing should b take care. this might b giving weight to different messeges. and assign ranks by counting these weights.

if i m to include some detail----
'welcoming a member' message will have a weight (may b 2 ton)
'creating good thread' message will have a weight (may b 3 ton)
'posting a new thread in prog/grap/net/ etc. section'...............(may b 3 ton)
'answering thread/message' ...................(may b 5 ton)
'useful suggestion message'.....................(may b 4 ton)
.............
..........
etc.

and if we count these weights for a particular member & decide such as if the member gets 500 ton weights than he/she will b in this rank........and this will continue for the no of ranks (that we like to give to our respected members)

mastermind wants custom rank: my opinion is----it may b done but in that case moderators of this forum have to judge it safe and relavent.

quantum, ur suggestions abt ranks' titile could b implemented. but i think just in and beginner is interchangable not two different ranks' title. we should use any one. others r perfect to me.

but i think we could use different schema too, if we like. e.g
soldier, second leftenent, leftenent, captain, major etc.
or,
student, graduate, first class graduate, ...............

Sounds new to me too. But I think, its better to have something related to computing/IT. Perhaps you good look at some computer games for the naming. You know almost every game has difficulty levels and some games use really nice ranking.
