we have web design class, adove class, basic program class in our school though... i took adove one ...first level of it...couldn't take the other because i don't have place in my program card to take it... they don't let us take too many classes like i want.... i took first web design when i heared that they have it... but then i needed those advance placement classes for college (you know they are crazy about those... i don't like it...because they don't let you take them unless you have regular credit of those classes like bio. chemistry and physics....and i don't want to take one class twice who cares AP...when i won't even know the other field.... ) but i am surprise to see everyone so upto those stuffs you know...like you all.... i am so curious to take them.... now... insha-allah i will drop that ap history and take that web design ...class...pray for me okay...because sometimes they don't even let us change too.....

Now my opinion would not be unbias. Obviously I love what I do so much that I cannot recommend you anything but my field. Which is web development. However, I am not sure what kind of web designing course the universities near you offer. This is something you have to find out for yourself. I am also uncertain as to if you could take simply web development as major. Perhaps, there should be something like e-commerce. I studied with CIS or computer information system. Web development is something that I learned entirely by myself. So if you are enthusiastic about it then you can major in something else, take a few courses on web designing and learn web development by self study. In fact, some of the best web developers that I met learned web development entirely out of self teaching.

There are various parts of web development. There is the design part; for which you will have to know html, css, application software dreamweaver etc. You will also need to be good at some 2d software application, like photoshop. Then there is the web programming part to create dynamic web sites. Working with databases and stuffs. Be very good at one or two server side scripting language like php/asp. Another part of rapidly evolving web development is Rich Media Applications. Like macromedia flash. You can create an entire dynamic web site with flash. That will make your audience simply scream wow. Check these two sites for an example:

I am pretty certain you will love it. But a word of caution. Web development is rapidly becoming a very competetive field. Mostly because the learning curve is not very steep. But after a stage it is all about creativity. And that's where the quality of the developer is evaluated. A good web designer makes more than US$100 per hour once he has secured his position. A good web programmer can make more than $200. But yes, you have to be real good.

One thing I always encourage people; learn web development by yourself. The basics are surprisingly way too simple. Start learning it now without waiting for school or any course, that's my advice. If you love it then you can take it as major.

So great to see your reply. Yes, alhamdulillah I am fine with the text. I like that. Its funny you know the way I play with it. You would laugh at my work and my way of learning it and all the writings I do when they write things in <><> of paragraph. Now, for your trust on me I have to judge and choose category. I think the general one is the right place to talk about the major things or other things. Happy to see my judgment. I really think that you are in agreement with me in this point. Are you? I have quite few questions though on web thing. So, I will have to add that on that page. So two page, and I might have question on Photoshop later on too. Brother quantum, too many pages to work with when I don’t really have enough time to use online. And that’s the only reason for my disapproval over my decision. Yet, I don’t know. Do I have any other choices brother quantum? Insha-allah I will do things in order so it will make your life easier and others too. Right.
Here you go, some saying reply to yours. Brother I am not really frustrated with the school but little angry at all those people who are making all those rules and system and so on. You see they made a system for signing for computer is to swipe our library cards when we sign and then when we want to start using the computer entering our pin numbers. Therefore, we were saying will they make a system when we want to enter into the library we will have to swipe our cards and people without card can’t enter into library and so on. And we will have to pay for bringing the books from library and so on. And for school library that’s what I was worried because I don’t go to lunch room when I have lunch time. I stay in library in computer section most of the time. You know they took the printer from that section to front desk and made that one printer for everyone. I was thinking will they change something else now like this library or so. Or will have start using surveillance camera in the hall way or so on. You know to guard the students and prevent cutting and so on they made id card and swipe system while enter and going to library and lunch room. What did it do? I don’t know but students still cuts the classes. You would be surprise to hear the trick bangali students use, which is to turn the id card upside down and then swipe it, the computer can’t catch that. Isn’t it lovely brother? I don’t care about those things. I don’t do those stuffs and I don’t hang around anywhere and I never cut the classes and in fact, I don’t understand the point of cutting the class, what will I do cutting the classes or so on. Besides If I cut classes I will miss my lessons in classes and lose 5 points from my average grade and get lost in class for a week. Ee! Too much for cutting. I don’t need that at all.
I don’t have any complain that I will have to discuss with any counselor or so on. I will be in school for one more year insha-allah. don’t want any trouble, I passed three years without any complain and so on, I can pass this year too insha-allah. I am actually fine with the school system of education.
About the SAT trap. You know that SAT thing, shock brother. Those math problems are too so easy but you know those traps they set in some problems that is quite hard to understand and do them correctly. I need to take the SAT for college so studying for it. The Kaplan books are easier then the Barron’s ones. The Kaplan teaches things easily like that w3 sites. I like barron’s books too. But not the SAT one. I think they did too much in it but some of the things are easy like that vocabulary list on the back. I really want that list but I don’t have the book and library doesn’t have it either. Maybe someone took it or so. You know what I think about SAT math, it’s not good. I would have been happy if they used advanced problems in the SAT test and all the big problems instead of those trap easy problems. I can do those big problems much better than those small trap ones. And English par, shocking. I have too much complain about this SAT and many students and teachers have too. This is a test that stressed me out last semester and therefore I will really bother to see my college counselor this new term if I don’t do good or so on. May Allah save me. I really think I will faint or so if I don’t’ do well. I would hate to hear those words of that man when I have five average grade or point to enter into any college. Forget those things.
About the major thing brother quantum: you know after you wrote first time about that I went through all the college information in N.Y. CUNY. SUNY. And private ones too. The only thing made confused was the N.Y. map. They separated into 8 parts, so I was lost which one is near me or not. At last I got that. The only funny thing or rather a annoying thing is that a major has different name in different college and I found not a college with a major of web developing, maybe one saying; web design and so on. So, I am confused about that. Almost all the college has CIS major and a computer major. Some of the college has much more major on this computer system thing than other. Among those: Pace, Farmingdale and Brooklyn college, lamham (I guess spelling is wrong) it is in Bronx. And some other college. Among this pace is the one that has best and another college that is name is mercy college of dupe fairy I think. It has everything on computer except few things. But I don’t like one of its requirement for admission, that’s on music. I took a music class but I think they want more on it. I don’t have any time for that. So, I wanted to know which major is on web design an so on. They have application and information system that is applying the already made programs as our college advisors said. I was thinking of take that one. The thing I wanted to know is that which is one is better and can you tell me just a little bit about them. I want to know but I have no one really ask to about all these. That’s why. What about programming one. Tell me please. So, that’s all about it. I really wanted to tell you about this and all the majors when I went through all those books of colleges. But I couldn’t and now I forgot almost all the things but these.
There are too many subjects I want to study on like philosophy. I like that philosophy stuffs and sociology, and speech and physics and biologist and so on. But I don’t know where I will end up.
I can take some classes though right. They would let me take that. Don’t you think? I hope they would, at least on philosophy and sociology and on speech. I really want to study on them at least for a year. Insha-allah I will take sociology in my following term as college now class or this term if I drop BA and take that one instead. I never took business classes so I want to know some of the things those business people do you know. Just to know.
You are very right to say that I am so curious minded girl. Certainly, that curiosity of my brought me to your site and so. You know what I am so curious about more than anything on your to know. You may not like it or be surprise. Still I want to tell you. It is YOU that I want to know much more than anything on your site. Web design, sure I wanted to learn. I have been looking for a way to learn it for a year and a half. We have a contest in our school on web design and I really wanted a diary website for me for a long time because no site has a lovely diary site where one can adorn it as they wish. I asked my photoshop teacher whether he knows how to do it if he knew would ask him to teach me. I did ask him but he didn’t’ know and he said he would like to learn to and told me to go to business department that they have class where they have assign a project making a project. Now, this term we have web design class which is new in our school as a subject. I took it but dropped it to take AP class. I wanted to take too many classes and I did but then my counselor told me I can’t have too many classes so I had to drop those.

Now that's a real problem. If you want to be a web designer you have to somehow make time and opportunity to stay online as much as you can.

Now, I am really glad to hear that you do not like cutting classes. That really does not get you anything except for making you pay for it later. And if you soon get out of school, it's not probably worth getting into trouble with the authority. But I do not think, it would bring any trouble if you just ask a teacher or counselor that school system is getting too complicated for normal use.

Oh I know about SAT test. But it's been a while I took it and forgot all about it. Besides you saying SAT trap got me little confused. But now I se it. Yes, sat test is quite easy and I am confident that you will do pretty well in the test. Just take it easy and don't be tensed when you take the test.

Now about choosing a major. First of all choose one that will not have prerequisite course that you have not taken already. Like asking for a music course to get into CSC is pretty silly. You like to take philosophy? Wow, I love philosophy too. Yes, there will be many courses and subjects that may interest you. But you can take only one major. So you have to focus on one. If you are good on Math, programming is an option. On the other hand, if there is web design as a major, then it is a good option too. But if your choices vary so much you can do one thing, that is take something general as a major and minor in one of the thing that most interest you. Say you can take CIS as major and then you minor in ecommerce or webdesign. This way you get to learn programming, business, webdesign, all of them. And of course you can take many credits on philosophy or sociology as general subjects. Evey semester you will have to take some general classes anyway as requisite subjects. Until you are on your 3rd/final year. I think you have to take something like 45 credits on your major subject (it depends on school) and the rest on your minor and other subjects. So you should be able to take at least 30/40 credits hours of class on philosophy, sociology etc.

Once you learn the basic html you can start working on a diary site for free at geocities. That is a real good idea. Later on you can buy a website domain of your own and transfer your website to there.

Photoshop is another expensive software by adobe. And it's expensive to buy. It costs about $700. But it is absolutely about the best software for 2d image editing. And I mean the BEST. If it seems too costly to buy now, you can try a free one to start learning to edit 2d images. This is an essential skill for a webdesigner. You have to learn graphics design. Let me know when you want to learn graphics design, I will get you some free graphics software for you to download.

No, I don't mind. Quantumcloud is a Dhaka based company. Our office is in Mirpur. Offshore or outsource company means that we try to do web design and software solution works for the clients from developed countries, like USA, Australia or UK. Their benefits are that if they let us do their IT works, it is much cheaper for them than developing them in-house.

Now about me? umm...I am 25 years old. Male of course. lol. I was born and raised in Dhaka. I passed from Dhaka College and left for Canada. Lived and studied in there for 2 semesters. then moved to tulsa, oklahoma, usa. I lived there for 4 years. Maybe, you should check out the university syllabus of the one you are planning to go. That'd help you both ways.

Another thing you should do is read the works and theories of the greatest minds of the world. The great philosophers that came and tried to solve the questions over and over again. Begin with Plato. In his dialogue of Socretes, The Republic, he has probably raised all the philosophical questions That ever arose in human minds. You should be able to get hold of a free online english version easily. Lemme see..

I used to debate in forums where harvard and cambridge profesors participated. You will meet like minded people and the complete opposing ones. No pun intended, but the few posted one or two posts once in a year, were like fishes much out of their depth. So lurk for sometimes and see how the community goes before asking questions and making comments. Or some will reply very harshly. I very highly recommend this one:
