quan, how should i edit my page, i don't understand,
they said this

Quote:
In order to edit this page and add new pages to your website, you can use our new web based creation and editing tool. It's easy to access from any of your web pages by simply clicking the "LOGIN" button on the top banner of any page on your site. There's no software required, and it works right in your web browser. You can upload html files and images directly from your browser, create new pages using the built in template page generator, and edit any existing page (like this one). You can also ftp to wave.prohosting.com. Login with your username and password, then upload your web pages. Make sure you name your main web page index.html NOT index.HTML or Index.html, because it is case sensitive.

This is the default index.html file, make sure that when you upload your web pages, you overwrite this one with your main web page.

but i don't understand how to do this. i went to control pannel page and click on web edit page but i can't edit it.

i tried the source page but that won't work, how should i do it.
i don't understand.

can you help a little or tell me what to do???

Payel, that frameset code is quite okay. What you are missing are the files associated with the code. You have to have three html files in the same directory. Namely, tryhtml_frame_a.htm, tryhtml_frame_b.htm, tryhtml_frame_c.htm. These are the files whose contents will be shown in the frames.

Another thing is that the full html page source should have all the <html><title><head><body> tags etc. The frameset code goes in the body section.

Also if you are seriously thinking of using frames for your website, read this article first:

Now payel, you should provide us with as much relevent info about your problem as possible. For example you did not say here which free hosting service you are using. There are thousands of free hosting service out there.

Anyway, whatever it is do not use the web based editor they give you. It won't help you learn the real html stuffs. You should create and test your website in the notepad on your computer as we told you before. When you are satisfied with the website, you need to upload the files with the directory structure intact to your web server. The free server you are using should have an upload page where you can upload multiple files. Or they can also give FTP access. Look it up. Also a very good idea is to checj out their help and FAQ page. Most comon tasks should be explained there very nicely. These things are very easy and most things you should be able to figure out by yourself by looking carefully.

hi quan,
i hope you are great.
now about the frame thing,
i could do the last example i told you, it works great and few others too
but this one isn't.

code is
<sorry, quan, i think my eyes were in the sky so i saw something else
instead of the real code, now i know why that thing didn't work. i put extra %
with that. what a silly thing>

but the next problem is about the web host page

i redirect it by www.shorturl.com (i don't know why i did it though, i just did it
just to see what they do with that page. . but they didn't do anything with it
they just added their address as a link at the bottom of the page.)

before i hosted that page from www.prohosting.com
and my page address was wave.prohosting.com/payel3
and now it is sodoami3nasrin.shorturl.com

i was just trying to see what they do.

quan, i still don't understand how to change or update my page,
what is that FTP thing, and how do you use it and so on.

i think i need to give this a little more time and work with it for hours
quitely so i will get it.

how do you update and make pages on that host page?

quan, i think i will be in your java forum soon,
i want to learn that java thing very much.

so bye now.

quan can you check the page and tell me what to do with it
and how should i start?
i don't understand how you update and change it yet.

Do you have your own hosting? or using free host.
If free then do they support ftp?

Good to know that you got your frames worked out. But as I said, NEVER use frame for your website. Learn them only for academic purpose.

Forget about that short url thing also. sodoami3nasrin.shorturl.com is not much shorter than wave.prohosting.com/payel3.

Now I have checked out your website. Everything seems to be okay. Now all you have to do is get your web pages uploaded. But before that, I don't why you chose prohosting. Their services are full of advertisements. And the ads are really annoying and obtrusive. Geocities provides a much better free services. They display ads too, but they are not nearly as bad. You should figure out how to get the geocities account. Just use your yahoo id to log into www.geocities.com, activate and upload your website.

For the time being, if you want to test your website from prohost, you can use wsftp easily. I have created a test account there for you. And uploaded a sample website.

http://wave.prohosting.com/qcloud/

Take a look. See, it works. So you must be doing something wrong with your wsftp. Read this article on how to use WSFTP.

http://home.ida.net/index.cfm?cat_id=47&fuseaction=categories

In the Host name/address, put: wave.prohosting.com
Then put: Username: payel3
Password: your password

Click connect. It shoud connect to the web server and show a directory listing. From left window browse to and choose your files and double click on them to transfer.

Let me know if that works for you.

thank you quan, for that site you made for me.
yes, i now know what i did wrong.

take a look at this pages, this is another page i hosted from another site.
here you go.

http://free.hostdepartment.com/s/sodoami3nasrin/alink.htm

you should be able to view the site and visit all the pages on that page. i uploaded everything. this site has excellent way of uploading files. it is easier than the other one. but i don't understand one thing though quan,

Nice job. We have taken many steps ahead in web development. Congratulations on your first website.

Yeah, I am happy to be being able to save you from the hands of evile frames!

The default or home page that shows for any directory or main website must be named index.htm/index.php/index.html/index.asp. So put an index.htm file in the root directory and it will show up for free.hostdepartment.com/s/sodoami3nasrin

The next things you should learn to do is,

1. look at many many professional looking websites and try to figure out how they are designed by looking at the source code.
2. Read some other topics in this forum and also web design review forum. You will learn what things are to be avoided and how some things are being done. Start a new topic if any question comes to your mind.
3. Learn at least some basic graphics designing.

Btw, nice poems and story. It always hurts to loose someone dear. But life goes on. So all the best luck with you.

quan, i will try to do that
but tell me this first,

i wanted to make a page so, people can post comments,
i tried.
but i think it is not working though.
not proper way, would you check ,

<form action="MAILTO:sodoami3@yahoo.com" method="post" enctype="text/plain">
<h2>Post your comments</h2>
Your Name:<br>
<input type="text" name="name"
value="yourname" size="20">
<br>
E-Mail Address:<br>
<input type="text" name="mail"
value="yourmail" size="40">
<br>
Your Comment:<br>
<input type="text" name="comment"
value="yourcomment" size="40">
<br><br>
<input type="submit" value="Send">
<input type="reset" value="Reset">
</face>
</form>

that's what the code i used,
instead of sending the mail from comment page, they show me
microsoft mail compose page to send comments, that isn't what i wanted.

can you tell me what to do. you can check the page,
free.hostdepartment.com/s/sodoami3nasrin
i fixed the index thing ...so it is fine.

oh! one other thing,
you know i tried to make all those website address as link but i couldn't do it
using this code it didn't work right way

<a href="www.quantumcloud.com">www.quantumcloud.com</a>
also, i tried this
<a href="www.quantumcloud.com" target="_blank">www.quantumcloud.com</a>

i couldn't do it. now, i copied the codes using other site sources. but i need
to know why didn't it work?
okay, good night quan, and good morning for you too.

<quan, i couldn't finish my PM msg. to you. hope will write the last part soon. bye now payel>

Hi Payel,

What you are really looking for about the posting comment thing is called Guestbook. A guestbook is a complex thing. It has to be written with a server side scripting language, usually with PHP or Perl. The technique you tried to use is a simple mailing option, so it's calling up the email application to send an email to the receiver specified in action="MAILTO:sodoami3@yahoo.com". Anyway, normally you cannot write or install a guestbook with your free server. As this will need php and cgi previleges enabled in the server. But you are in luck. There are other websites that offer this service for free and you can host the guestbook in their server. Just sign up with one such. The guestbook is hosted and served from another server. Choose one from here:
[http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&q=free+guestbook]

This one seems to be good.
[http://www.freegb.net/gbook.cgi?30002]

For such guestbooks, frame is a good option. You can finally use your frame skills here!! wow. lol. In the guesbook page you can use two frames and load the guestbook in the bottom frame. In this way noone would know that it is coming from a different website/domain.

You have to always put the protocol when linking. In this case the protocol is
Code:
http://
. You missed that in your linking code. I'd appreciate it if you always link to quantumcloud with the following code:

Code:
<a target="_blank" href="http://www.quantumcloud.com/" title="Best outsource company">Best Bangladesh web design outsource company</a>

Link to forum:

Code:
<a target="_blank" href="http://www.quantumcloud.com/forum/" title="web design and programming forum">Web design and programming forum</a>

Hope to hear from you soon.
