I just heard about this 3d software from the other thread. Has anyone here used it? How is it? Is it better than 3ds Max or Maya? What are the advantages of Lightwave 3d?

All these softwares are specialized for diffrent subject..though they are capable of doing anything what they can. Here I'm giving littlebit explanation about these subject.

Maya is the industrial first choice for 3D creation. Cause it has really some outstanding dynamic effects...which can make the thing just real!!! For example......Stuart Little, Mummy(all) and many more...I can't finish it.
And maya prove that he is the best for industrial needs with the film "Return Of The King"

3DS MAX is the best choice for game developer...though it has been use several popular movies like...."Last Samurai" But for game this is the best.

Lightwave is a same software with diffrent look from the other....he is specialzed with space or aircraft modeling....you may have seen "Star Wars or Star Treck" Lightwave had been used to do those models.

Softimage XSI is another powerful 3D software for industrial needs. This is extremely good at any special character making like "The Rock In Mummy Returns" and also for the realistic effects.

So all are good for their environment and everyone can do all...but they are the special things of them.

Maya=Cenema Special Effects and other industrial advertise.
3DS MAX=Game Modeling and basic Industrial Use.
Lightwave=Modeling and space animation with color correction.
Soft Image XSI=Special Character with animation.

Now you choose your department..what you want to learn and exactly what you need.

Hasnat sums it up very nicely.

Lightwave might be specially good for space environment. Although, you can pull all kinds of animation stunts with lightwave just as with Maya or 3ds Max.

Check out this page for some lightwave features:
