Hi aronnok can you please tell us what are the security risks of using Linux GUI? I can't imagine one.

For sake of argument I like to say that todays large memory and processor power doesn't effect that much - "the battle between GUI and CLI"

It is more down to the attitude of a unix lover. Gurus use that so do we. In this I like to recommend a link by Eric. S. Raymond-hope you people will feel the need of GUI in *nix. Why we need that - so general people can use it. We've to remember the cause of Information Technology. Benifits go to everybody.

Thanks aronnok for the explanation. But you did not answer my main question. You said using GUI makes linux insecure. Can you please make some points for that? I was interested to know how that is possible. Thanks.

I also agree with DK. How would linux grow more popular if it restricts itself to just a few geeks with command line prompts, that will take months to learn? Most people just do not have that much time and patience to do a few simple jobs. If linux cannot get out of this inconvenience, then it will never catch on with the majority of the people.
