Post Post subject: Some suggestions... Reply with quote

Hi,

I just found this site and instantly registered. I am happy to see a board like this by the bangladeshis. Definitely its a good initiative. Right now, I can't comment on the quality of the contents of this site as I haven't gone though all the topics yet. But I could say about a few things that came into my mind. I'll write more soon after I discover the forum better.

1. Skin colour. You MUST work on the skin colour. The layout is ok but the colours must be changed. The administrator should customize the colours instead of using the default or given skins. Its a hard work if you want to create an attractive and effective forum. The foreground colours used at the moment does not stand out from the background and its very difficult to read these light grey coloured texts. Also, different colours should be used to identify links.

2. Rename the Common Interests, Personal Backgrounds board to GENERAL DISCUSSION board where people can talk to each other about almost anything and specially move it out from between intro and rules. It simply doesn't make sense. It can be placed under a new board heading like Community.

3. I'm not sure where to post my question if a have any problem ( e.g not related with programming) with my computer (or computer related devices). Therefore, I think there should be different board called Tech Board or something like that.

4. I think the home button (top left) is a bit confusing. It should direct a user to the board index (OR it should be a bit more clear to which home it is reffering to).

5. Though there are databases boards with C, Java, VB etc. but I think there should be a seperate database board because there will be many questions purely on databases (e.g.MySQL, Oracle etc.).

Well that's all for the moment. Gotta go now. I do have a life you know :D

Agree with above. Also, remove the word COMPLAINS from the first board (intro, sugg, comp). It doesn't look nice.

Mastermind and New Kid(on the block),

First of all, welcome. Your participation will be appreciated in turning this forum into a lively one.
The forum is fairly new. Little more than a month, it has been online. So there are much room for improvements. The current skin was implemented just yesterday after minimum customizations. Following your suggestions more modifications are made today. Chk out the points,

1. Link colors changed, text color deeper. ( although personally I like the more blended look. but yes, it might be harder to read in monitors with less contrast)
2. Common interest...renamed and moved. A seperate forum created with an additional category. Mind that, we want this to be basically a tech board. We are not in favor of too much non-tech topics. There are plenty out there.
3. For now, a new section is added as hardware and any-tech issue. If more ppl are interested we can highlight the topic.
4. Home button is changed to reflect the site home.
5. A purely database section created.

6. The word complains has been removed.

Have a good stay and any constructive suggestions are utmost welcome and will be implemented.

Your efforts show that you are indeed serious about making this site a good one (as opposed to many other out there). Well done Quantum... I'll definitely try to assist as much as I can, you can count on me on this.

Hmmm.. I just wanted to edit a poll that I set up but got the following error

Could not obtain vote data results for this topic
    DEBUG MODE

SQL Error : 1064 You have an error in your SQL syntax near 'ORDER BY vote_option_id ASC' at line 4

    SELECT vote_option_id, vote_result FROM phpbb_vote_results WHERE vote_id = ORDER BY vote_option_id ASC

    Line : 308
    File : .../forum/includes/functions_post.php

Similar error messages when I tried to delete the poll :?

Edit: Anyway I deleted the thread and added a new one. And the post counter in the main index is misleading.

Mastermind,

The problem rose from a query result being set free too soon. Has been fixed. Try edit poll again and let me know if there is any problem. I checked it and it works fine now.

The database has been resynched to show the accurate counting. Thanks for notifying the eroors.

I heard that, here, the british people starts a conversation by talking about the weather :x . Anyway, though I am currently living in the UK, I intend to return to Bangladesh permanently next year ( Provided that I get decent job there :) ).

Quantum,

Just tested the poll and it seems to work fine. Great work. The only problem I can see is that the poll cannot be edited (for example if I want to add another option in case I missed it in the first place) after a vote has been casted.

I do not see a problem with that. I just added another option in that poll. Is there any error message showing when you tried?

Just tried again and same result. The thing is after casting a vote, when I go to edit post, I can no longer see the bottom part 'ADD A POLL' at all.

Can you edit the poll AFTER casting a vote ?
