I guess you're using windows.
following hardwares needed:

2 NIC.
2 RJ45 connector
Twisted pair cables according to your distance.

Look at to this website for cable connection(color cobination).

If you're using win98 then use netBUI as network protocol.

After setting hardware if you need further info post a msg.

If your printer has network support then you'll have to use a hub. If your printer does not have network support then the computer (to which the printer is attached) will have to stay ON to print from the other computer.

Thanks for your replies. Sorry I didn't reply earlier. I was busy with my exams. Now I understand the hardware requirements. But how do I setup the network. I think I need to use a class C ip addresses for the NICs. My question is if I specify ip addresses to the hosts then how I will use the internet (I think the isp will give an ip address autiomatically when i logon, then there will be two ip address for the host). I use dialup access and want to access the internet from both computers. Thanks.

New kid, it's very simple. Anyway, I got wired feeling that you don't bother to search net before asking an old issue which is solved ages before.
Do you know there is a search engine called google?

All your configurations are contained in following links:

Happy hacking.

Then I would say:people need to learn how to find information. Constructing the search string on the net is also an art which people need to master by reading the manuals and help files provided by the search engine community.

Try if you can get a membership for this site. They offer a very cool guide to hack google. If you can't send me a private mail. I will send you the guide.

Happy hacking.
