The test was made on 10-25 August 2004, using Windows 2000 SP4 on a CELERON 2400 Mhz, 256MB DDRAM.
All programs tested had the latest versions, upgrades and updates and they were tested using their full scanning capabilities e.g. heuristics, full scan etc.
The 76556 virus samples were chosen using VS2000 according to Kaspersky, F-Prot, RAV, Nod32, Dr.Web, Sweep, BitDefender, E-Trust and McAfee antivirus programs. Each virus sample was unique by virus name, meaning that AT LEAST 1 antivirus program detected it as a new virus.
ALL virus samples were unpacked and the only samples that were kept were the ones that were packed using external-dos-packers (that means not winzip, winrar, winace etc).
The virus samples had the correct file extension using a special program (Renexts) and were unique, according to checksum32 filesize.
Most "fake" virus samples were removed, as well as "garbage" files.
The program PER was not tested because there was no english demo version available.
The programs BOClean , VET , Titan , RisingAV , Ikarus and Freedom were not tested because there was no demo version available.
The program InVircible did not include a "typical" scanner-function and could not be tested.
The program V-Catch checks only mail accounts and could not be tested.

I never heard of the antivirus Kaspersky! Is that a popular antivirus? But it is no.1. It must be good. I need to try a trial version.

I use the Kaspersky Personal Pro 5.0.14 and I'm really happy to get rid of Norton, Mcafee and Pc-Cillin.
I do always browse many diffrent of sites..and I didn't notice any alert from those buggy antivirus..and when I did browse those sites..I get error message and My internet became very slow till I reboot.....and after rebooting the net became slow after certain time...because those sites infected with trojan and worm. And those antivirus keep silence on it..which was really surprised to me. Then I searched on net for a real solution and all the experts gave me the suggestion for Kaspersky or F-secure!!! I was really scared then and surprise too.
But all has been cleared to me after installing Kaspersky Personal Pro. This is really great!!! won't slow up your machine anymore and updates in realtime 8 times a day!!! and it can detect the maximum Viruses signature.
C-Net and ZD-Net never recommend this software before Norton, Mcafee or PC-Cillin and there is two reason and that is they are paying and they have some extra features like "Firewall, spam or adware"
But when you need an Antivirus for protecting you securely..then you need really some extra ordinary and that is Kaspersky.
C-Net and ZD-Net has been mentioned many times that there is no firewall like Zonealarm pro..so I think you do not need their extra features and get Kaspersky and Zonealarm for your full protection.
And onething for you..and that is..on the ranking top 5 Antivirus used the kaspersky engine to detect viruses..so hope all are cleared to you now....and this is totaly my personal opinion of my 6 years of internet uses...this is not necessary to agree all with my review.

Very good information Hasnut. Can you burn a copy of Kaspersky for me, I like to try it by myself in office. Cause I spend a lot of time to protect thier winbloz OS while they go around different website.
