Post Post subject: Voting and Open Source Reply with quote

Hello,

My name is Darren Karr, I’m the founder of America’s only “non” political party, Party X (www.party-x.org) and 2004 Independent Presidential candidate (www.darrenforpresident.com). Support for Party X has been significant because Party X offers a common sense alternative to the entrenched Republican and Democrat machine.

Rather then working from a “grass roots” campaign like almost every political organization (including the Kerry campaign), Party X has adopted a “guerilla” form of campaigning. We're wining the hearts and minds of Americans not by spending more money then the other guy, but offering real solutions from real people – not career politicians, not lawyers, not political parties, not corporations, and not big money contributors.

To my point: It’s obvious that there are problems across our country with the voting systems. Hanging chads, invalid signatures, multiple selections, etc. are plaguing our systems and as a result, both the government and private organizations are spending millions of dollars after the vote has been cast. All the while, We the People simply want our vote to be counted and wonder if it actually was.

It’s my opinion that every single one of these problems can be eliminated through the use of computers. This was tried in Florida in 2004 and was a disaster. It started with people and organizations questioning the corporations that designed and implemented the voting programs. This is what happens when money is involved with our democracy.

I'll be running for Governor of the State of Oregon in 2006 and would like to include in my guerilla campaign a working model of a computerized voting system that could be implemented in Oregon in 2008.

This is why I’m posting in your forum. I believe the only way to have such a system is to have it designed, created, and implemented by open source programmers for reasons I’m sure all of you can understand.

I’m an average American who’s sick of my life being controlled by the government and I’m trying to do something about it rather sitting on my butt complaining. I don’t just talk, I take action. If you would like to help with this project, please let me know.

Have a great day,

Darren Karr
