Post Post subject: Opening port 80 Reply with quote

hi guys,
I have small linux related question. I'm just testing some html related stuff and for which i need to run a web server. But the problem is i don't know how to enable the http-server port 80 in my linux. I am running debian. I know i need to use iptables but since im not an expert in it, i don't wanna play with my firewall much.

any suggestions?

thanks

I am not a linux expert though and never used Debian also.
But as far my knowledge I think you have to start the http service with the command:
#service httpd start
After that open browser and type http://localhost/ which will show a Test Apache page, means its ok.
Then put the html, php files in location /var/www/html. I think this will serve your purpose.
