It absolutely baffles me too. The problem is you know, people find it much easier to talk about nothing, instead of something. Besides, all our posts are in english. You know how bad most bangalies' english are? Do you think this has an impact? _________________

Hi Mastermind,
Where is everyone? So many regeistered members so few members talking! I do not know about others, but it is tough for me to get online. I do not have any broadband connection. Besides, I am busy now, preparing to leave bangladesh. That is why I am not posting regularly. I beg sorry from everyone.

Well, I think one of the reason is generous people (specially bangladeshi) are too shy too express themselves (As oppossed to western people). Perhaps many of them register because they like to see a bangladeshi forum and feel they should be part of. But next, they don't post anything because they want to post something smart. I believe many of them can ask a lot of questions but they are afraid his question might be too easy. Hence, they wait until they find a really wicked question. I just want to tell them that a forum is NOT just for asking questions. Its also about becoming part of a community and share different views and experiences. Everyone has some experience (both in BD and abroad) from which others can be benifitted.
But hey...all of these are just my own idea. Perhaps we will never know UNTIL THE NEW MEMBERS START POSTING... _________________ Keep your own dignity, both online and offline throughout your life !!!

Wow mastermind, Excelent analysis. Yes, that can be a strong reason. But really, in a friendly community there is no reason to be shy. Nobody is born as an expert you know, except for few geniouses like Newton, Einstein, DK, and Mastermind of course. But the rest of us are just normal people and don't mind simple questions, cause they are easy to answer. _________________

I beg to differ. In any group some folks just remain silent and some people talk. 100% involvement is an unknown concept. Some people are watchers. Some wait for the right topic to respond to. Some are just busy. Some have entirely different reasons. Like I recall this dude from the military (US) waited for 6 months before making any post to one of our groups. Even the group was composed of elites, other military & govt. officials and people from the upper echelon, he waited 6 months before making any move.
If people subscribe and post that's ok. If they subscribe and do not post, that's ok too. We all have the right to remain silent.

Why wait for the right topic. Why not create the thread you are interested in and let us join you ?

Actually the thought did cross my mind. Would you like to moderate C and Hardware forum? _________________

Tanvir,
I get your point. Of course, anyone has the right to silence. But he also has the right to speak. Does'nt it depend on the situation which right one should exercise when?
Actually, we are little worried because now is the stage when the forum's future literally depends on the handful of the initial members. Because we are trying to jump start it. Or it will just die out. Once it gets rolling and 50-60 people talking regularly, it won't matter if 300 others talk just occasionally. But 6/7 people talking out of 60 is little bit like walking on the edge. There is a limitation to how many good topics a few number of people can come up with. Besides, this also means we do not get the full benefits of brainstorming. I would say, at this point, every single contribution counts.
You need to attract more traffic. I don't have any other "bright idea" at this moment.
BTW, although this is out of the context, do you have some suggestion for HappyHacker<dot>org? If you do, I'd appreciate if you let me know.
Regards,
Tanvir.

Tanvir,
Quantumcloud averages 20,000 unique hits(not page views) every month. So traffic is not really a problem. Problem is to get the visitors participating. True, most of them comes to download the wallpapers. But I will do a redesign of the entire site and bring the forum into more light.
Happy hacker was in my kool site list for a long time. But it is not clear to me what kind of suggestions you expecting. Suggestion as a web designer? As a fan? As to how to best use the site? If you can be more specific, please post in the Hacking Forum. I will try to answer. _________________

mastermind I believe in certain theory. One is that, if you don't have a solution for a problem, don't make it worse. Cause who can offer the solution needs to work far more than before. That's make life hell. Why don't you start few nice thread before asking other people to do that. I think you understand what I'm trying to say.
